ANY sincere fan will at times display what may seem like an inordinate amount of emotional attachment and angst to sports and celebrity news. Whether they’re yelling at a referee, still in mourning over Brangelina or just defending themselves from autograph hounds, every true fan carries a bit of sports celebrity gossip inside them.
In fact, celebrity can even help grow interest in a team or sport that may have otherwise been stagnant. When a star from music, film or television shows up to cheer on a favorite player at a football game, basketball game or other competitive event, the buzz and excitement surrounding the event can skyrocket. That’s certainly what happened with the Kansas City Chiefs this season when country singer Taylor Swift began attending games to cheer on tight end Travis Kelce and her hometown team.
Kelce wasn’t the only one to benefit from Swift’s presence at games this year as both ticket and merchandise sales have risen significantly. The team has been the subject of plenty of press headlines and social media coverage as fans are clamoring for a chance to see their idol in action.
On this episode of “Show Me Something,” Charlotte and Madeline start off with a few admin orders of business and quick informercials before getting down to the latest sports celebrity gossip. It took a little longer but WNBA star Suni Lee and NBA player OG Anunoby have finally made their relationship official, Jalen Brunson is clearly annoyed with Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyrese Haliburton’s dad can’t go to Bucks games anymore (probably because he’s Giannis Antetokounmpo’s godfather). Plus, surfing star Billy Kemper shares a video of his gruesome injury and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn discusses her career and her groin injury.
