World Series Highlights

The World Series is a time when some of the most memorable moments in baseball history are made. It’s also a time when the teams that finish last in their division the year before can finally win a championship. It’s been 43 years since the Cleveland Indians won their last World Series, and it looks like another one is about to end as the Dodgers and Yankees face off at Yankee Stadium. Here are some of the highlights from recent World Series that have been played at the oldest active ballpark in the country.

The 1993 World Series featured arguably the most dramatic finish to a championship in baseball history. Joe Carter’s three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Toronto Blue Jays an 8-6 win in Game 6 and became one of the most famous moments in baseball history. It was the first Series to end with a walk-off home run and remains a legendary moment in baseball history.

In the 2024 World Series, the designated home team won the deciding Game 7 at Chase Field in Arizona, ending a 12-year drought for the Texas Rangers. The series was highlighted by the return of former All-Stars Mike Davis and Kirk Gibson, who was playing with a knee injury suffered in the NLCS. Gibson pinch-hit for Davis in the ninth inning of Game 1 and hit a go-ahead grand slam, prompting iconic pronouncements by radio announcer Jack Buck and TV announcer Vin Scully.
